Lazy Letter #1: A slap in the face

It’s finally here! This is the very first edition of my monthly Lazy Letters. I was so excited when I just hit publish.

Starting out on a high note, this is my July recap and should have been sent 3 weeks ago. 🤦‍♂️

I couldn't have sent it any earlier though as the ideas was only born about 10 days ago. The good news for you is that the next one is around the corner. I'm aiming to send these out around the third of each month.

🗞 So what's been happening?

We thought we had beaten Covid, having had mostly a normal life in Sydney over the past 12 months but Delta has slapped that triumphant smile right out of our smug faces. July was our first full month of lockdown life and we have come to terms with the fact that we might be hibernating until summer starts. Thankfully, it also sped up our vaccination rollout here in Australia and I got my first shot so naturally I feel like I'm as invincible as the pink Power Ranger.

With lockdowns come cancellations so we had to cancel our trip to Tasmania which was a real bummer. Instead of bringing you an awesome travel vlog from my island adventures, here are a couple of snaps from my lockdown walks.

The benefit of being locked inside is that I picked up the pace of posting videos again. And while I'm very limited in my choice of location, I secretly enjoy not having to face my anxiety of filming in public.

And that's pretty much it for July. A lot of plans that changed and a lot of filming. Don't forget to subscribe to my channel if you want to keep up with my videos every (other) week.

🖌 Creator's ToolKit

PROCREATE

This popular drawing app had been on my iPad for months but I never really used it as I was a bit intimidated given it's mostly for illustrators. It has since become an essential part of my workflow. I mainly use it to draw outlines or add little symbols or arrows to my thumbnails and social posts. It's available in the App Store for a one-time purchase of AUD 14.99.

Since I couldn't go to Tasmania, I rewatched this travel vlog by Australian YouTubers Haylsa & Kyle. The video initially served as inspiration for planning the trip, now I was only able to experience Tassie vicariously through them.

I have been catching up on a lot of episodes of the Armchair Expert podcast recently. One of my favourite guests was psychotherapist Esther Perel. She talked about the effects of Covid-19 on social boundaries, relationships and re-entering society after lockdowns.

Live. Work. Pose!

I binged all 3 seasons of Pose in July. New York's ball culture in the 80 and 90s serves as a backdrop for a group of gay and trans performers as they navigate identity, the meaning of family and the devastating AIDS crises. It's loud, it's colourful, the ball scenes are super weird but overall a fabulous watch.

🗃 From the Archive

I've been on YouTube for a bit over a year now so I went back to the very first video that I posted on my channel. While I fondly remember that trip with my friends, the video itself makes me cringe a little because there is no story, no concept, just random clips thrown together. This is a great reminder of how far I've come and I hope I'll get another chance soon to make another travel vlog with my friends.

Thanks so much for reading this first edition of the Lazy Letters! Let’s chat on Instagram. I’d be keen to hear what you think. Subscribe below if you want the next Lazy Letters to land in your inbox.

Take care! 🙌
