Lazy Letter #4: Finally Free

Thanks for checking out #4 of my Lazy Letters - my monthly wrap of what I've been up to including tips and tools for creators, things I recommend you watch, read and listen to and things that inspire me. I hope you enjoy this November edition.

🗞 So what's been happening?

WE ARE FREE! After over 100 days in lockdown here in Sydney, restrictions were finally eased a few weeks ago and life feels exciting again. I did have a bit of re-entry anxiety at first but a few social outings in now, I feel good and am looking forward to summer down under.

In celebration of our state hitting vaccination targets, the Sydney Opera house was lit up with images of frontline workers and people who got vaccinated. I always seem to miss these photo ops but this time I went down to a nearly empty harbour late at night to get a few shots. It felt so good being out and about shooting again.

Have you ever tried flat lay photography? Im always struggling with finding the right balance of including enough things to tell a story but not making it look cluttered. It always seems to effortless when you see someone else's photo. Here is my latest attempt for a video thumbnail I did recently and a fun fact is, I only used it for the first 24 hours and then swapped it out for something else 🙄 We're going to great lengths over here at the Lazy Creator HQ.

I'm currently doing Ali Abdaal's Part Time YouTuber Academy. A 6-weeks intense course on how to position your channel for success. It's really exciting to connect with fellow creators and complain to each other how hard it all is. I'm hoping the course can help me refine my channel direction a little more and stay consistent with my uploads.

That's it for this month. A lot of things are happening at the moment and next year will be quite different which I'm really excited about. I'll update you more on this in my next newsletter or in one of my upcoming videos. So if you don't want to miss it, subscribe 😉

MILANOTE

If you've been following my YouTube channel for a while, you might have heard me talking about this app several times. For a visual planner like me, this app has made note taking and creating mood boards so much easier. Throw all your ideas onto a board and then move it around freely to structure it. Just like post-it notes on a wall but with a few more features. The first Milanote video I created was found by quite a few people via YouTube search and is in the Top 3 videos on my channel. You can start using Milanote for free but if you fall in love with it and want to upgrade, you can my discount code "dan30" to get 30% off.

I had the best time at the Australian version of Hamilton, Lin-Manual Miranda's wildly successful musical about one of the lesser-known founding fathers of America, Alexander Hamilton. By far the best show I've ever seen.

Days Like This - I came across this 90s classic in an episode of Modern Love on Amazon Prime. You can never go wrong with Van Morrison.

Hot Ones - Celebrities being interviewed while eating spicy wings. Great concept, right? I’ve been watching this YouTube show for years. Here is one with Elijah Wood or the more recent episodes I really enjoyed.
