🗞 So what's been happening?

The title says it all, the last month was mostly the same old same old. The good news is that September was the last full month of lockdown. We finally found out when we will be allowed out of house again and at the time of writing this, it’s only one week away. You can feel the anticipation in the air. The end of the year is one of my favourite times in Sydney so I can't wait to go explore, catch up with friends and fly my drone again.

In last month's edition I told you about my social media detox that I was doing at the time. It finished in mid-September and I have to say I really enjoyed it and it really freed up a lot of time and brain space for other things. I just published a video talking about my experience.

Another exciting thing that happened was Sony Australia sliding into my DMs asking me whether I’d be interested in becoming a founding member of their new ZV Nation Community. It’s a local community of creators using the Sony ZV camera line for their videos. The launch video was released in September featuring a bunch of creators from Australia including yours truly.

You might not know this about me but I'm a big fan of inspirational videos with voice overs that press all the emotional buttons and I always wanted to create one myself. I finally took on the challenge and made my own little inspirational short film. I'm really proud of it, check it out in the next section.

ADOBE SPARK

You probably heard of Canva? The easy-to-use design platform where people like you and me can feel like a world class graphic designers by simply customising templates from a library of millions of designs? The less sexy version of that is Adobe Spark. This is what I use for almost all my Youtube thumbnails and any other social media graphics. It's a bit more clunky than Canva but the great thing is that it's part of the Adobe Creative Cloud so if you're already subscribed to Photoshop and Premiere Pro, chances are that Spark is part of your subscription. I have a Beginner Tutorial on my channel.

It’s not about creativity - it’s about consistency.
It’s not about motivation - it’s about discipline.
It’s not about talent - it’s about practice.

One of my favourite YouTube creators, Matti Haapoja, speaks about creator burn out and how to define success in your life.

My latest Podcast discovery - Learning Lots with Brie Larson and Jessie Ennis. The two actresses interview a bunch of public figures and celebrities, each episode focussing on one topic such as climate justice, confidence or weed. It's the perfect listen for a Saturday morning walk.
